Hazel studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art and Leith School of Art.

Her anchor point has always been a fascination with the figure and she works from life whenever possible. Her mark-making seems to be referring to layers: of consciousness, of time and memories, of tissues and emotions.

She lives and works near the village of Carlops in the Scottish Borders.

Hazel is currently an artist-in-residence at the National Trust for Scotland’s Newhailes House. A selection of the work from this period will be shown at Newhailes from Spring 2009.
