Hazel began her study of life-drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art, and then went on to study painting at Leith School of Art.

Her anchor point has always been a fascination with the figure and she works from life whenever possible. Her mark-making refers to layers: of consciousness, of time and memories, of tissues and emotions.

She lives and works near the village of Carlops in the Scottish Borders.

Hazel was until recently an artist-in-residence at the National Trust for Scotland’s Newhailes House.

A book of images from this project can be viewed and purchased here.
