a sculpture looking for thoughts and words from you
Imagine a medicine chest that is packed with capsules that, rather than being filled with drugs, are full of the hopes, dreams and wishes of hundreds of people.
I have made an interactive sculpture based on this idea and am looking for some help.
Next to the chest are the words:
HERE IS A MEDICINE CHEST WHERE YOU CAN PUT ANYTHING IN A CAPSULE.
FEEL FREE TO WRITE WHAT YOU NEED OR WISH FOR YOUR WELLBEING
I have a huge supply of crystal-clear empty capsules (the largest size made for human consumption!). The idea is that you can take a fragment of paper, write down whatever you want with a fine pen, and then curl it up inside the opened capsule. It is surprisingly easy to create a personalised “medicine”.
So far, as well as just writing words, people have made capsules with scraps of maps, sheet music, newspaper, letters, chocolate wrappers and tickets.
All the capsules will be added to the open tray of the Medicine Chest where viewers can them pick up and have a close look.
The hope is to have contributions from people far and wide.
Medicine Chest is part of an exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy called VAS:T.
You can visit the free exhibition at the RSA from 7 - 28 February 2015. You will also be able to make capsules there. (The RSA is the gallery with the big pillars where the Mound meets Princes Street.)
